The truth is - it may be some time before you’re able to get back into the hairdressers. And we know, we miss you too! But before you do anything drastic (like give your waist-length hair a pixie cut) here’s four ways you can survive Level 4 Lockdown hair with style and grace. In fact, your hair may just end up enjoying every minute of staying at home.
Number 1: Give shampoo a rest
If you’re a regular hair washer, now is the perfect time to give your hair a bit of a break from shampooing. ‘But my hair gets so greasy!’ you say. Well, why not try co-washing (also known as a cleansing conditioner).
See the thing is, shampoos are great at cleaning dirt and oil from your hair, but if we do it too often it can actually damage the hair follicles. So by using a cleansing conditioner, you can get the benefits of a shampoo, but with more of a moisturising effect. And since most of the country is playing a serious game of ‘go home stay home’, you might as well give your hair a bit of a rest in between shampooing. It’ll thank you for it in the long run.
Number 2: Stop the heat
While you’re working on ‘less is more’ when it comes to shampooing, you should also think about downing tools - we’re talking straighteners and hairdryers. Because let’s face it, there’s not a lot happening on the calendar at the moment. Heat styling damages hair and if you’re able to let your hair dry naturally and just ‘do its thang’ each day, you’ll give it a chance to repair - i.e. less breakage and split ends.
This is good practice as we move into the warmer months of the year - healthy hair is easier to manage when things get all humid and hot. You could also try out some styles without the tools, like up-dos or french braids.
(But you're still keen on learning some new styling techniques or improving your existing skills - check out our how-to video tutorials on Instagram).
Number 3: Mask up
While face coverings are essential whenever you leave the house, we think hair masks should be compulsory while in the house! Yes, with all this time on your hands, why not give your hair some extra TLC with a regular repairing and restoring treatment. Hair masks are not only about intense moisturising, but they can also nourish cuticles and boost the strength of your hair.
Some of our hair masks also help to keep your hair colour last longer (since colour-treated hair needs more moisture to help maintain its tone) - which is an added bonus. You can use hair masks a couple of times a week if your hair is in need of some serious attention.
Imagine being able to leave Lockdown with healthier, shinier, softer hair than when you went in. That’d be a win!
Number 4: Maintain your colour
For those who have regular colour treatments at the salon - we hear you! It’s hard seeing those greys making an appearance, or dark roots coming through. But what if we told you that you can get a colour or root touch up safely, in the comfort of your home.
Whether you have a Zoom meeting to attend, or will need something to work its magic until Level 2 is announced, we have a range of root coverup products to help out until you make it back into the salon. And if you need to banish the brassy blonde, or inject a little bit of colour back into your hair - we’ve got you sorted, from toning products to colour conditioners.
In all seriousness, we know that this is a stressful time for many people. And if we can brighten your day a little by helping you to refresh and revitalise your hair - from a safe social distance of course - then that makes our day!
